According to the National Retail Federation, back-to-school spending will reach $83.8 billion this year, ranking back-to-school shopping as the second largest shopping event of the year. While the tax-free weekend offers a great opportunity to stock up on the necessary back-to-school items, Better Business Bureau encourages families to plan ahead to get the best buy for their buck.

As hearts pour out in the heart of Texas, some will donate money, food, bedding and other much needed supplies to the families who lost everything in the historic Central Texas fires. While many are suffering, others will steal those well-intentioned donations and line their own pockets.

The 13th annual Sales Tax Holiday, or Tax-Free Weekend, begins Friday and runs until Sunday. Consumers can expect to save approximately $8 for every $100 they spend on most clothing, footwear and school supplies priced less than $100.
